About the Author Living beyond the tragedy of losing family in a plane crash inspired Terri Severin to author her first book, In the Wake of the Storm, which has been acclaimed as an inspiring and universal story of hope and resilience. The book tells of her journey through loss, grief, and recovery, since losing her sister and nephew in the crash of American Eagle Flight 4184 on October 31, 1994. Terri has devoted much time and effort to ensuring that airlines are better equipped to compassionately respond to the needs of families and survivors of air disasters. She played an instrumental role in bringing about legislative changes within the airline industry, mandating new regulations in airline response. She is a cofounder of the National Air Disaster Alliance, as well as a founding member and co-chairperson of Families of 4184. Terri continues to appear as a guest speaker at international symposiums on improving responses to emergencies and disasters. She is also a guest lecturer at response training classes within the airline industry. She has been trained and certified as a Hospice Volunteer as well as a CERT member (Community Emergency Response Team, a program sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security). Severin shares unexplainable occurrences throughout the story that entice the reader to explore a deeper meaning to life and the possibility of an expanded world beyond what we can see and touch. Terri sums up her purpose for writing this book when she says: "Several years after the airline crash I decided to document stories of my sister’s life for her surviving son, Jonathon. In the midst of preserving these special memories, another story began to reveal itself. That story is the odyssey of my book In the Wake of the Storm. You will travel with me during the aftermath of the tragedy and experience its profound repercussions. I share unexplainable occurrences throughout the story that entice readers to explore a deeper meaning to life and the possibility of an expanded world beyond what we can see and touch. My hope in writing this book is that anyone who has experienced hardship or loss may benefit from the knowledge I have gained walking this unscripted path of recovery."
